Thank You, Ark Donation Update

March 21, 2011

Wow, I am really honored and astounded by all the response I’ve gotten over the 10 days since I originally posted about paintings for donations to Animal Refuge Kansai. Thank you everyone from the bottom of my heart. The final total the painting drive raised was ¥66,000! that’s over $800 usd.

Because I only have so much art materials and stamps to spare, I am capping my free paintings off at 50 (I have already painted 46). I am sorry I can’t paint these forever, but please continue to spread the word about ANIMAL REFUGE KANSAI. They still need our help very much. With all the foreigners fleeing from Japan ARK is bording and taking in hundreds of animals.  They have sent two of their animal rescue and animal trama experts to sendai with a van load of supplies to help animals at the disaster point.  To read more please visit their English news archive.

That said, I think I will be taking larger “pet portrait” commissions for a larger donations. Please look for that soon. It’s so important to keep the news of this wonderful and hardworking NPO spreading.

Here are a few of the paintings that were sent out this morning and a picture of the stack of letters

Thank you everyone who has helped and donated to Animal Refuge Kansai! It warms my heart that there’s been such a big response and everyone has been sharing the news. As of today we have raised over ¥48,000 which is over $600 usd!! Incredible!

Of course I would love for that number to rise, so please keep sharing the news! I will keep making paintings for donors until I run out of materials.  ARK has already been working hard and made a second update about the disaster.

Here are some photos of all the paintings I’ve made and shipped

Thank you everyone for your support and giving during this difficult and heartbreaking time.

Japan Earthquake and Tsunami Animal Relief

March 12, 2011

EDIT: Thank you so much to everyone who’s donated for paintings! Together we’ve raised ¥66,000! that’s over $800 usd!! Due to the huge response I’ve run out of paintings a lot sooner than I thought. I have a few left but after 50 I’m out! However I plan on taking special “pet portrait” commissions for larger donations as soon as I figure out the logistics. Please keep checking this page or the main page for more info! Thank you again!

Our hearts go out to everyone in Japan, and everyone around the world who has been affected by all the devastation. You don’t have to look far to find our connections to people in Japan. My Family and their extended family who live in Japan are all safe.

My brother has been posting news and resources at his blog Sleepytako and also on his Twitter feed.  Please check out and follow his blogs if you’d like to find English language information about the disaster.

If you have already donated to REDCROSS or to GLOBALGIVING and would like to donate more specifically, please consider donating to ARK ANIMAL REFUGE KANSAI.  ARK is preparing and sending help for the huge influx of homeless animals that is sure to happen from this disaster. They have had experience from the 1995 Hanshin-Earthquake where they took in 600 animals from people who are unable to care for their pet because of displacement, or who found animals from destroyed homes.

If you consider donating 1000 YEN (about $13 usd) and send me a screencap or forward me the paypal email receipt I will send you a thank you animal painting. Of course if you can spare, please donate more, but 1,000 yen is the minimum to receive a painting from me. My email is Mollybot(at)gmail(dot)com

I have already donated my 1,000 YEN and I made a photo tutorial about how to use the paypal donation service.  To Donate, go to this link and click the large button on the right that says “Donate Online Paypal”

The paintings are made with acrylic paint on bristol paper with a heart cut out from a map of Japan. They are 6 in x 4.5 in. Remember to email me at Mollybot(at)gmail(dot)com with your receipt and the address to send your painting to.

If you have any questions please leave a comment. I ask that if you can, please spread the word and link this post on your blogs, twitter and facebook pages. Thank you.

EDIT: I have also made a listing on my etsy page 2 Crafty Tanuki if you don’t have a paypal account.

playing with old paints

February 17, 2011

I’ve been playing with my old set of watercolors lately. I mixed lots of white to get a more opaque gouache-esque look, but I think I need to stop pussyfooting and just try using real gouache :0

The bottom painting has hand stitching on it.
